A man who stole £75 worth of Christmas lights was jailed for three months when he appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Kelvin James Kane (20), of Jefferson Court, pleaded guilty to theft of lights from B&M Bargains on December 11, last year. He also admitted a charge of burglary with intent to steal. The court was told he was identified on CCTV. On November 5 Kane stole a soft drink worth £1.

The defence said Kane’s offending had come to the attention of certain elements and he intended to move on release.
