Ports falter in latter stages against Dunluce

This match was fairly even for the first 15 ends and there was no indication of what was to happen during the last 6 ends. Dunluce had gone 21-28 ahead after 5 ends across the green and with 10 played it was the home team who had edged ahead on 46-44. After 15 ends the game was still in the balance at 68-73 but a dramatic final 6 ends saw the Bushmills men hit a purple patch, outscoring the home team by a massive 28 shots to record an excellent 110-77 victory. On rink 1 Jonathan Reid, Mark Jones, Frank Jackson and Keith Padgett were against Brian Smyth's quartet and although Brian had taken a 4-10 lead with 5 ends completed Keith recovered the situation drawing level at 11-11 after 10 ends. A 2,3,1 on the next 3 ends by Keith for the loss of a single gave him a 17-12 lead with 14 played however a 6 for the visitors gave them the lead and a 5,2 follow up finished the game as a contest. A 1,2 for Keith and a 3 for Brian on the last 3 ends left a final score of 19-31. Adam Hunter, Kieran Adams, Peter Mc Cann and Eamon Mc Cann were against Rodney Kane on rink 2 who had Simon Colvin at third. Unlike the other rinks the highest score recorded on any one end was a 2, with the score at 6-4 after 7 ends. A 2,1,2,2,1 sequence gave Eamon a 14-4 lead and after exchanging singles on the next 2 ends it was Rodney who went on a scoring run with a 2,1,1,2,1 to bring him back into the game at 15-12 with 19 ends played. Shared singles on the last 2 ends left a 16-13 win for the home rink. Rink 3 saw Tommy Mc Cart, Stephen Young, Aaron Foster and Chris Jones play Uel Mc Keeman. This game was level at 7-7 after 5 ends however a 5,2 for the loss of a single put Uel 8-14 ahead. Chris responded well and with 12 ends completed trailed by only 2 shots, 13-15. It was at this stage that the visitors went on an incredible scoring spree running out emphatic 13-37 winners. There was an amazing high scoring game on rink 4 where Andrew Millar, Jim gaul, Geoff Padgett and Roy Hunter had Paul Moore as opposition. A 6,1 gave Paul an early 3-8 lead and swapped 3's kept the margin at 5 with 6 ends played. The visitors lifted a single on the next end but a 4,2 by Roy levelled the score at 12-12. A 3,5 on the 10th and 11th ends for the Bushmills men was more than matched by a 5,4 for Roy to go 21-20 in front. A brace of 3's for the visitors was punctuated by a 2 for the home rink to bring the score to 23-26 with 16 ends completed. The game again swung in favour of the home rink as they scored a 1,2,1 to lead 27-26 with only 2 ends left and a 3 for the visitors on the penultimate end meant Roy needed to score at least 2 shots in the last end to get something from the game. Roy didn't disappoint as he lifted a brace to secure a draw with a final scoreline of 29-29. Portglenone are at home to City of Derry this Saturday.
