The Northern Health and Social Care Trust has confirmed a Serious Adverse Incident review is underway at Antrim Area Hospital after two patient deaths from Covid-19 earlier this year.

It follows a call from South Antrim DUP MLA Pam Cameron for answers to be provided to the bereaved family.

In a statement to this newspaper, a spokesperson for the Trust said: “Between April 1 and May 11, 24 staff members tested positive for Covid-19 on wards C6 & C7. This includes a declared outbreak among staff centred around ward C6 that accounted for 22 of the 24 cases.

“There was no declared outbreak in ward C7. As we were in a period of sustained community transmission at the time it was difficult to clarify where the exposure happened. However, we adopted a precautionary approach of assuming exposure was within the clinical environment.
