Lisburn volunteer thanked for work with city council

LOCAL man, Brian McDowell, has been named on the latest Royal Honours List, receiving an MBE for voluntary services to the local community and to Lisburn City Council.

Brian has worked for Lisburn City Council in a voluntary capacity for the past 26 years as a Receptionist and has also worked in the local community undertaking voluntary work with Ballymacash School Youth Club and First Lisburn Presbyterian Church Youth Club. Brian has also been a representative on the Lisburn Youth Council, Northern Ireland Youth Forum and on the Northern Ireland Youth Council.

Speaking about his MBE, Brian said: “I am honoured to be receiving an MBE and I am extremely grateful to the Council for nominating me. Although I have known for some time, it has been humbling to receive all the messages of congratulations and the shock of the news is still sinking in. I take pleasure in all the voluntary work I do and it is very rewarding to know that what I do is appreciated and is now recognised so publicly. I will continue to serve my local community and would encourage anyone who is considering doing voluntary work to go ahead and do it. I look forward to receiving my MBE at a ceremony later this year.”
